Ernie was born in Eureka California April 22, 1922. The Taylor family moved to Collingwood, Ontario, Canada when Ernie was three. In 1946 he entered O.C.A. as a D.V.A. student. He was instructed by Franz Johnson, Frank Carmichael, John Alfsen and Yvonne McKay Hauser. He was befriended by Fred Varley who influenced Ernie’s feel for paint. In 1949 Ernie spent one year at the Art Students’ League in New York City. Ernie opened a stain glass studio in Toronto, worked as an illustrator for Taylor Advertising, Weekend Magazine, Star Weekly and the National Film Board in both Toronto and Montreal. His friend and classmate Duncan Mac Pherson was of great assistance to Ernie’s development in journalistic art. In 1967 Ernie assumed the position as art instructor at the Algonquin Composite School and later West Ferris Secondary until 1980.
Ernie passed away on 31 Oct 1999 at Meaford General Hospital.
